The location of your passkey depends on which option you chose during creation. In general, the private key is always stored securely on your device or in a linked cloud account and never leaves it unencrypted.
Depending on the option chosen, your passkey is stored in the following location:
Windows Hello stores your passkey locally on your Windows device. It is tied to that device and is not automatically synchronised. If you switch devices or reinstall the operating system, you will need to create a new passkey in your enovetic ID account and remove the old one.
Apple Passwords stores your passkey in the iCloud Keychain. This makes it automatically available on all your Apple devices signed in with the same Apple ID, including iPhone, iPad, and Mac. When switching devices within the Apple ecosystem, you do not need to create a new passkey, as long as you are signed in with the same Apple ID.
Google Password Manager stores your passkey in your Google account. It is available on all devices signed in with the same Google account, regardless of operating system. Switching devices therefore does not require creating a new passkey.
Keeper Security and other third-party password managers store your passkey in an encrypted form within their respective systems. Availability across multiple devices depends on the synchronisation settings of your password manager. When switching devices, it is usually sufficient to sign in to your password manager on the new device.
Physical security keys such as a YubiKey store the passkey directly on the device. Since no cloud synchronisation takes place, the passkey is only accessible via that specific key. If the key is lost, you will need to create a new passkey in your enovetic ID account.
You can view and manage your stored passkeys at any time in the settings of your password manager or operating system.
